Hard to get requested time approved. Yes 1 No 1. Its a great learning environment and, you meet new people everday. The hardest part is seeing people confined. You learn alot about self containment, medication management, case management. Yes 11 No 2. One would think that being an officer you would be treated with respect. It was the other way around. The offenders where pacified to the point where officers are walking around on egg shells. To me that is a stress full place and I choose not to work for them no longer.

I was a little scared at first then i adapted real well.

Everyone cares about one another and works as a team. God Bless them all. New employees do not get treated fairly, constantly rotating from post to post every single day. Never consistent. Not much to say. Salary is okay but not for the level of stress that you have to endure. Supervisions never fix a problem when you complain to them because of the necessary paperwork they will have to do. They really need some serious work. Yes 4 No. A typical day of cooking for the inmates and helping and teaching the inmates how to cook.
Teaching inmates about the safety procedures of handling food also. Free lunch. Yes 2 No. I was prepared for anything when working in the Prison. Yes No 1. Your experience matters. They promoted managers with no experience and hired their friends instead of picking the most qualified candidate.
Staff didn't feel like management cared about them. Yes 3 No. Sometime the correctional officers can get under your skin before the offenders do, other time it will go both ways, It is a fast paste job must keep up with paper work need to pass it to other shift. Staff work with you when needed, give little gift at times. Call in hurt alot when people don't come to work. Yes 1 No. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I met a lot of good friends, that's all. Help us improve! Nothing to say about this place but if you need a job and can deal with a certain stress level this is the place to start working. There is advancement within the department if you want to move up. I work in the armory, its never a dull day. I use to be on transportation, it was great we transported offenders to their appointments, it was very interesting.
Sussex I state prison is a productive workplace. Very productive workplace. All ways something to do. We have a great staff. Fair supervisors. Our warden is a wonderful person to work for.
The civilin staff is awsome. A lot of overtime. Great benefits.
